DIVERSITY AWARENESS EXPERIENCE

The purpose of the Diversity Awareness Experience (The Training) is to create a shift in the attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors of the participants as they encounter people that are different from themselves in both their business and personal lives resulting in Social Inclusion. The attendees range from approximately 20 to 60 participants.

The training teaches concepts of empathy, Social Inclusion, appreciation of diversity, disability, empathy vs. sympathy, assimilation, and acculturation. Additionally, while the original intention was to train the typical population to understand and ultimately include people with autism and disabilities, the training has evolved into a “people training.”

AIAB SOCIAL INCLUSION EVENT

AIAB events are appropriate for customers that have large organizations and are interested in leveraging the training to larger populations at one time. While the training can accommodate up to 60 participants, the event can be scaled to hundreds and thousands of people depending on the landscape of the event.

When the training is paired with the event the participants of the training are being trained as facilitators for the event. The five to seven activities that are taught in the training are converted into booths at the event. At each booth the facilitators are training their peers. As an example, this has been extremely effective at the Los Angeles Police Department Autism Symposium Days. Twenty to thirty uniformed officers participated in the training a week before the Symposiums. At the symposiums they trained 125 of their peers, all in uniform, trainers and participants. It made a difference to be trained by their peers. Each booth station had twelve participants. The booths rotated every eight minutes until everyone had visited all of the booths.

The AIAB Event format is perfect for professional sport's teams to capitalize on advertising revenue with kiosks located throughout the stadium on "theme nights". The result is sustaining more revenue while making a difference in the world. This concept is applicable for any theme night, not just diversity. As an example, imagine Hispanic Culture Night with kiosks represented throughout the stadium. A "passport" is given to participants to get stamped at each Kiosk visited. Fully stamped passports could be entered into some kind of drawing. Scoreboard messagings promote further revenue opportunities as well.

CREATIVE SOCIAL CURRICULUM FOR K-2

The Creative Social Curriculum teaches Kindergarten thru second graders concepts of empathy, social inclusion and appreciation of diversity through art. Social inclusion is about including others into people’s lives and getting along with those people. It is about relationships. The way people communicate, socialize, and behave around one another dictates how well they are going to get along. When people perceive a difference in others in these areas they tend to judge them and move away from them. The program invites participants to create a shift in how they react when differences in communication, socialization, and behavior occur. The curriculum is an integrated curriculum utilizing creative social concepts expressed through art.
